SlickBG

SlickBG is a free, browser-based AI background remover that processes images entirely on your device – nothing is ever uploaded to a server. Paste a URL, drag and drop, or browse to select your image, and SlickBG’s three-engine pipeline removes the background in seconds at full original resolution.

Under the hood, SlickBG runs a tiered fallback system: Transformers.js with the RMBG-1.4 model for high-quality removal of any subject, MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation for fast portrait processing, and smart color-based detection as a non-AI last resort. WebGPU acceleration is used where available (Chrome/Edge 113+), with WASM fallback for Firefox and Safari. The result is a transparent PNG, downloadable in PNG, JPG, or WebP – with no watermarks, no resolution caps, and no account required.

For power users, SlickBG includes a Bulk Remover (up to 20 images, parallel processing, ZIP download), a Bulk Editor for applying backgrounds at scale, a free public REST API at /api/remove-bg (10 requests/minute, no API key needed), and use-case landing pages covering e-commerce product shots, portraits, social media content, and graphic design asset extraction.

Multi-Engine Processing

SlickBG runs three background removal engines in sequence with automatic fallbacks. Transformers.js with RMBG-1.4 handles the widest range of subjects at the highest quality. MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation kicks in as a fast, lightweight alternative optimised for human subjects. Smart color-based detection acts as the final fallback for solid or simple backgrounds. If one engine fails, the next takes over – transparently, with no action needed from the user.

Every image you process stays on your device. SlickBG uses WebAssembly and WebGPU to run the AI models directly in your browser – no server receives your files, no data leaves your machine, no cloud storage touches your images. This is a fundamental architectural difference from every major competitor.

Full HD Quality, No Watermarks

There are no resolution limits. SlickBG processes and returns images at their original dimensions with full quality. The output is a clean transparent PNG – no watermarks, no compression artefacts, no forced branding.

Bulk Background Removal

Upload up to 20 images at once in the Bulk tab. SlickBG processes them in parallel (2–3 at a time) for maximum throughput and packages all results into a single ZIP file for download. Ideal for e-commerce product catalogues, portfolio batches, and social media content pipelines.

Bulk Editor

Apply a new background to multiple cutout images in one pass. Choose a solid colour, gradient, or custom image background, apply it across your batch, and download the full set – ready for listing, publishing, or delivery.

Free Public API

Developers can integrate SlickBG’s background removal directly into their own applications via the free REST API endpoint at /api/remove-bg. Send a multipart/form-data POST request with an image field – receive a transparent PNG in response. No API key, no sign-up, no credit card. Rate limit: 10 requests per minute.

Privacy First by Design

SlickBG makes privacy a technical guarantee, not a policy promise. Because processing is fully client-side, there is no mechanism by which images could be stored, logged, or shared – even if someone wanted to. Zero uploads means zero exposure.
